One of the speakers of the nineteenth meeting of the family businesses owners in Odessa was vigorous ex-governor of Odessa region, Ivan Plachkov. He had been heading Kyivenergofor almost ten years, was a Minister of Energy in the cabinets of Yushchenko, Tymoshenko and Yekhanurov, but nevertheless he considers himself a power engineer only by profession. “My vocation is to be a winemaker!” – Plachkov says. And he adds: “I am a happy man, I have always been so.”

Plachkov was born and raised in the village Krinichnaya of Odessa region. In these places, they have always grown grapes and madewine. His project to create “fair wine” is a classic family business, which he started with his wife Svetlana in an area of 30 hectares not far from home grounds.

But what does it mean, “fair wine”? According to Plachkov, it is the wine that is made for people as if it were made for themselves. That is why it is important to achieve the taste that makesthe wine welcome and need no advertising. “It’s not that much of a business, rather my philosophy,” – he says. His farm employs 60 people, and the wine brand “Colonist” has already been appreciated by Ukrainian and foreign consumers. Among other things, Plachkov produces two purely Ukrainian sorts “Odessa Black” and “Sukholimansky.” It is interesting that Britain buys mostly that Ukrainian sort Odessa Black.
